Royal Mail quality of service report!

Mailsort and Presstream bulk mail services beat their targets along with First and Second Class PPI (Postage Paid Impression) mail and Standard parcels. The report showed 91.9% of stamped First Class Mail arrived the day after posting - against a target of 93.0% - while 98.7% of Second Class mail arrived within three working days, ahead of the 98.5% target.

The report published today covers the first three months of the 2008-09 financial year but the most recent figures covering July show that First Class stamped mail is again beating its 93.0% target level.

Ninian Wilson, Royal Mail's Operations Director, said: "Royal Mail's postmen and women put a huge effort into getting First Class stamped mail back above target level and the latest results show their hard work has paid off but we will not relax and are determined to keep delivering the best possible service to all our customers."

Interestingly the site goes on to say in a further statement :

Results on Royal Mail's Quality of Service are measured independently by Research International, a company with a long track record in this field. The methodology used and the results obtained are verified independently of Royal Mail and Research International. Royal Mail knows of no other measurement of its quality of service that gives results with the geographical coverage and degree of reliability and accuracy in the figures obtained by Research International.

The Quality of Service research is based on the measurement each month of 88,500 sample letters, parcels and packets sent to 6,000 addresses.

The report seems to contradict stories reported in national newspapers and online forums, so it will be interesting to see the reactions to this statement!
