San Marino: 75th Edition Of The Road Cycling World Championships - Varese

PDF Print E-mail
Known throughout the world as the Garden City, Varese will host the most prestigious cycling event in 2008: the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Road Cycling World Championships.

The first edition was held in Adenau, in Germany, in 1927, won by Alfredo Binda who then went on to win again in 1930 and 1932. Three routes characterize the Cycling World Championships: a road trial circuit for the elite, women's and under 23 categories; two time trial circuits for professionals, women and the under 23.

On the 0,85 stamp, the artist depicted a chronometer and a cyclist at the peak of his effort during a time trial competition. On the 3,25 stamp, the artist represented the most important moment during a road trial: the cyclist, at the finishing line, raising his arms in triumph.
