Cancel

Cancel or Cancellation – any mark or marks stamped, written, printed or perforated across a stamp or printed postal stationery to prevent its re-use. It includes postmarks and pen cancels and words like cancelled or specimen. It should be remembered a cancellation does not have to say anything or give any information, hence the considerable use in earlier times of dumb cancellors and obliterators.
