Stamps Celebrate Carry On Comedies

PDF Print E-mail
Carry On star Barbara Windsor has joined soldiers from the Household Cavalry to launch Royal Mail stamps marking 50 years of the saucy comedies. The stamps - to be released on Tuesday - look forward to the half century birthday of the Carry On series and also the first Dracula movie by Hammer Films.

1958 saw the release of Carry On Sergeant and Dracula, both produced on shoestring budgets - but films which kick-started a series of classic movies that were loved by millions. Each stamp features original cinema posters of six of the best-known Carry On and Hammer Horror productions, alternating between the two genres.

Ms Windsor, star of Carry On, who posed with soldiers at the launch of the stamps in London, said: "Carry On was part of growing up for so many of us. "It was a great honour then to be involved and I'm thrilled that Royal Mail has chosen to recognise these films in such a special way."
