The Famous British Guiana Stamp PDF Print E-mail
The stamp was found among old correspondence from British Guiana in 1873 by a 12 year old English schoolboy in Demerara named L. Vernon Vaughn. It was sold to a collector, N.R. McKinnon, for $1.50. McKinnon sold his entire collection to Wylie Hill of Glasgow, Scotland.

Brazil Bullseye Stamps PDF Print E-mail
Brazil's Bullseyes (so-named because they resemble the animal's eyes) have the distinction of being the second set of adhesive postage stamps introduced by any country. Issued August 1, 1843, they were second only to Great Britain's Penny Black and 2 Pence Blue. It is true that the New York City Dispatch released stamps in 1842, and the Zurich Numerals were issued in March 1843. Those, however, had local status, while the Bullseyes were released by a recognized stamp-issuing nation.

Scinde Dawk Postal System PDF Print E-mail
Scinde Dawk was a very old postal system of runners that served the Indus Valley of Sindh, an area of present-day Pakistan. The term also refers to the first postage stamps in Asia, the forerunners of the adhesive stamps used throughout India, Burma, the Straits Settlements and other areas controlled by the British East India Company. The name derives from the words “Scinde”, the British spelling of the name of the province of Sindh, and “Dawk”, the anglicized spelling of the Hindustani word “Dak” or Post.
