On 18th May 2008, Jersey Post will issue a miniature sheet to commemorate the 18th World Jersey Cattle Bureau Conference being held in Jersey. The WJCB Conference is “coming Home” in 2008 and it is the first time it has been held at the home of the breed for twenty eight years. The “Jersey” is the second largest breed of dairy cattle in the world and the only breed allowed on the island of Jersey since 1878 when a law was passed to prohibit the importation of any bovine animals to protect the breed. Nowadays it is thought that “Jerseys” may be found in virtually every country in the world. A miniature sheet is to be issued, but is currently at the proof stage, and the stamp within the miniature sheet features an excellent specimen of a Jersey Bull, “Mermaid’s Warrior Count.” The miniature sheet is available in a presentation pack and on a first day cover. The pictures are painted by William Oliver from images supplied by the World Jersey Cattle Bureau and the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society.
