This was a set of five stamps, released on the 12th March 1985, designed by C. Beningfield. The stamps were produced to celebrate British Insects, and the dates coincided with the centenaries of the Royal Entomological Society of Londons Royal Charter and the Selborne Society. The stamps showed an image of the insect along with the common name and also the Latin name. The 17p depicted a Buff Tailed Bumble Bee, Bombus terrestris, the 22p a Seven Spotted Ladybird, Coccinella Septempunctata, the 29p a Wart-biter Bush Cricket, Decticus Verrucivorus, the 31p a Stag Beetle, Lucanus Cervus, and the 34p showed a Emperor Dragonfly, Anax imperator. The stamps were available in all usual forms, along with first day covers and PHQ cards, postmarked from the Natural History Museum, London, which hosted the launch of the stamps with numerous displays and activities.
