| National Trust for Scotland 50th Anniversary 1981 |

This was a set of five stamps, released on the 24th June 1981, designed by M. Fairclough. They were issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the National Trust in Scotland. The 14p shows Glenfinnan in Scotland, 18p Derwentwater in England, 20p Stackpole Head in Wales, 22p Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland and 25p St. Kilda in Scotland. The trust was established in 1931, and is very similar to the Nation Trust which covers England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The National Trust for Scotland describes itself on its website as The conservation charity that protects and promotes Scotlands natural and cultural heritage for present and future generations to enjoy. The trust owns and manages over 128 properties and 750 square kilometres of land, including castles, ancient dwellings and historic sites. Hence Royal Mail decided that the 50 year anniversary was a fitting subject for a stamp release. Mark Steele |
