| Energy Resources 1978 |

|
This issue was released on 25th January 1978, and featured a set of four stamps celebrating Energy Resources, designed by Peter Murdoch. The 9p featured Oil in the form of a North Sea Production Platform, 10 1/2p Coal with a Modern Pithead, 11p Natural Gas with a depiction of a Flame rising from the Sea, and the 13p Electricity with a Nuclear Power Station and a representation of a Uranium Atom. This issue, featuring Britain’s development of its oil, coal, natural gas and electricity resources, appeared in the year in which North Sea oil and natural gas were brought ashore in large quantities for the very first time. It also serves as a reminder of the need to conserve energy as there is only a short time to plan future energy supplies to meet the situation when the present supplies become insufficient for our needs.
